Photos by Karen Chaton & Granite Chief

Chief and Sorcerer on the trail together, saying hello.

Looking at some of the scenery.  There is still a lot of snow everywhere.

Some of the hills we climbed.  There was no shortage of hills.

Looking back at Amy and Sorcerer.

Chief looks ahead at the trail. The footing is excellent for a good portion of the ride.

Looking back, we are going up and down a lot.

Looking ahead at another hill ahead of us.

The frontrunners.  We have gone 15 miles and left the vet check and have gone a few more miles and they are coming back from the next loop towards the vet check.

We are going up to the top, you can see the road.

We have gone part of the way up here.

Looking back down.  Chief has a really fast walk so tends to get ahead (which makes taking photos really easy)!

We are going all the way to the top.

We've come back down a ways and into a water stop, where they have hay and carrots.

Taking time to eat.

Looking at the scenery

John gets carrots for Chief.

Looking back down the trail. We've been climbing a long way again, and still have a long way to go.

Looking ahead.

Horses taking a breather.  The photos never do show how steep the climbs are, you kind of lose that aspect of it.

We are going to go all the way up and over the top, right betwen the snow!

You can look back and see how far up we are

More of the scenery

Now we are farther up, into the snow

Looking back.  You can see for miles in every direction.  The weather was gorgeous!

Looking over at a snowdrift.

Still going up.

Looking around at scenery.

Rocky section ahead.

Vet check, same one we had at 15 miles we are at again at 35 miles.

Riders at the vet check, getting ready to leave, or else they have pulled and are waiting to be trailered out.

Jackie Floyd and James Dean.

Karen and Chief, getting ready to leave the 35 mile point.
